Taiyaki NYC x The Dough Club in Harvard Square is a crossover of Japanese businesses: Taiyaki, known for its Japanese fish-shaped ice cream cones, and The Dough Club, which serves mochi doughnuts. I came for the latter, and ordered the churro (โ€œcinnamon sugarโ€) version. It came out warm, which made a good first impression, but beyond that, it wasnโ€™t anything special. The texture, from the mochi, was the best part. The doughnut was light and fluffy, but also doughy and chewy; it resembled the texture of a doughnut while definitively being its own thing. The taste, however, wasnโ€™t great. It wasnโ€™t very sweet and had only a slight cinnamon sugar flavor, so it just tasted plain โ€“ like a bland, bready pastry. Perhaps The Dough Clubโ€™s frosted doughnuts are better (options include tiramisu, ube and matcha, plus the seasonal pumpkin spice), but the churro flavor alone isnโ€™t worth the trip.ย
