With Thanksgiving tomorrow, it felt essential that I track down a Thanksgiving sandwich for this week’s Snack. Most were too pricey, but I came across a meatless version at Veggie Grill that fit the bill: a turkey(less) cutlet, herbed stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy atop a toasted brioche bun, aptly titled “The Gobbler.” It sounded like exactly what I wanted, but unfortunately did not deliver. The cranberry sauce was sweet and slightly tart and the “turkey” patty was hot and crispy, but the stuffing was mushy and flavorless, and there was so much of it that it overpowered everything else. Between the stuffing, the cranberry sauce and the gravy, the soft brioche bun became weighed down, making it all rather wet. This sandwich might have worked better if it came on a stronger bread, like a toasted sourdough or ciabatta, but as it stands it was a less-than-enjoyable bite.
