Price: $8.30

Here are two true facts about me. One: I love tomato soup. Two: At risk of sounding obnoxious, I don’t usually expect much from large chain coffee shops’ food selections, which can often be mediocre. When I happened upon Caffè Nero’s tomato soup and found it to be very good, I was pleasantly surprised. It fits into that small category of Snacks that work as tasty, filling lunches, the ever-shortening list of foods that are less than $10 and not snack-sized. The soup had the right texture, not too thin and not too thick, with undertones of garlic and a sort of subtle nuttiness. It did have some creaminess but still felt relatively light, and it came with a roll which, while a little dry, was a nice touch that was best dipped in the soup. Goes great with a side of work-from-coffee-shop, too.
