A fatal, multivehicle crash at around 1:21 a.m. Friday is under investigation, Middlesex district attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge police commissioner Christine Elow said Wednesday.
The crash at Massachusetts Avenue and Vassar Street among MIT buildings involved Lauren Mullins, 32, of Roselle Park, New Jersey, who was driving east in a sport utility vehicle. She hit a moped and then a campus police cruiser, both going in the same direction ahead of her, the officials said.
Mullins was arrested at the scene of the crash by Cambridge police on charges of drunken driving that caused serious bodily injury and negligent operation.
At her arraignment Friday, Mullinsโ bail was set at $15,000 and she was ordered not to drink or do drugs, not to drive, to stay in the state and to submit to random drug and alcohol screens. Her bail was revoked on a pending case out of Boston Municipal Court, though, the officials said, and court documents show she was taken to a jail in Framingham.
The operator of the moped, Daniel OโNeil, 73, of Boston, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he later died.
After the death of the victim, a new bail hearing was scheduled for Thursday.
