More guaranteed-income program
Human Services & Veterans Committee, 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday. This committee run by vice mayor Marc McGovern and councillor Ayesha Wilson looks at whether a successor program to Rise Up is feasible, considering the city guaranteed-income program was paid for by federal Covid-relief money – and that is ending or ended. The committee meets at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. Televised and watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
Nonprofit helps aging in place
Cambridge Neighbors information session, 3 to 4 p.m. Friday. Learn about Cambridge Neighbors, a nonprofit established in 2007 for older adults who want to stay in their homes and communities. The group, offering a variety of practical and social supports, meets at 545 Concord Ave., Suite 104, Fresh Pond. Register by calling (617) 864-1715 or emailing info@cambridgeneighbors.org.
City offices closed Monday
City of Cambridge, all day Monday. The city observes Patriots’ Day, which commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord and the beginning of the American Revolutionary War in 1775. All city offices, libraries and senior centers are closed; metered parking is free; and trash, composting and recycling pickup is delayed one day. Streets that would normally be cleaned Monday will be cleaned April 29. The offices at Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Ave., West Cambridge, will be closed for the holiday, but the gates will be open from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Patriots’ Day ride reenactment
Patriots’ Day observance, 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday. A reenactment by the National Lancers of William Dawes’ historic horseback ride from Boston to Cambridge and Lexington alerting the colonists of the British threat of 1775, with mayor E. Denise Simmons and vice mayor Marc McGovern giving remarks, U.S. Army Capt. Dale Kurtz giving a keynote and treats from Cookie Monstah. Free at Cambridge Common, near Harvard Square.
Main Street bike lane open house
Main Street Safety Improvement Project open house, 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Main Street is due to get separated bicycle lanes and related safety improvements between Massachusetts Avenue and Portland Street. Similar projects have whipped up strong feelings around traffic complications and loss of parking. This open house will share feedback from the public since the last round of community engagement, provide more information on a project delay and revised timeline, present updated plans for the project and gather feedback on final adjustments to the design. Discussion of police budget
Police Review & Advisory Board, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Police commissioner Christina Elow updates the board on her department’s budget. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
