Veterinary surgery clinic asked
Board of Zoning Appeal, 6 to 11:30 p.m. Thursday. The Core Veterinary Surgical Clinic, a woman-owned and independent business at a time more vets are being gobbled up by private equity firms, seeks to open a 2,200-square-foot surgery on the ground of floor of a new Abodez apartment building at 605 Concord Ave., in the Cambridge Highlands at Fresh Pond. Core also operates clinics in Maynard and Plainville. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
Summer food kickoff event
Summer Food Program, 11 to 2 p.m. Friday. A day of games โย kickball, knockout and others including an inflatable obstacle course โ as well as music, food, giveaways and the inevitable face painting is open to Cambridge families and โyoung people of all agesโ to introduce the seasonโs essential work: It provides free breakfast, lunch and dinner to Cambridge residents 18 and younger Monday through Friday at local parks in Cambridge. The program this year runs through Aug. 29. This introductory event is at Donnelly Field, 61 Willow St., in the Wellington-Harrington neighborhood. In the case of rain, it moves to the neighboring Cambridge Street Upper School, 850 Cambridge St., Wellington-Harrington.
Cambridge Day at the Kiosk
Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism, 2 to 3:30 p,.m. Sunday. Cambridge Day editor Marc Levy sits for a conversation with Binj editorial director Chris Faraone to talk about covering the news in Cambridge and Somerville, from City Hall to the environment to theaters and restaurants. Time for audience Q&A is likely, and some mingling afterward as needed. Binj has been doing a month of news-focused programming and expects to return for a month focused on arts and entertainment.
