Monday forum to host mayoral candidates
The Union Square Neighborhood Council holds a mayoral forum from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.ย Monday via Zoom and at 8 Tyler St., Union Square. The council requests RSVPs through Google Forms. Incumbent Katjana Ballantyne and councilors at-large Willie Burnley Jr. and Jake Wilson are running and taking part in the event, which focuses on each candidateโs vision for the square. Interpretation in Spanish, Haitian Creole and Portuguese will be available in-person; attendees may request additional languages online.

Councilor at-large candidate Walles organizes strike
Employees of the stateโs Department of Children and Familiesโ Cambridge and Burlington offices held a lunchtime walkout Tuesday. The action, coordinated by the Service Employees International Unionโs local 509 chapter, responds to โa documented pattern of managerial negligence,โ the SEIU said in a press release. The union further cited workplace intimidation, suppression of grievances and inequitable discipline. Its regional metro vice president and candidate for councilor at-large Marianne Walles helped organized the walkout. โFamilies and workers deserve to be treated equitably and with respect. We must have a system of accountability,โ Walles said.

Somerville for Palestine hosts Burnley in series
Activist organization Somerville for Palestine hosted councilor at-large and mayoral candidate Willie Burnley Jr. in a Tuesday meet-and-greet. The event, which allowed questions from the audience, is the first in a three-part series. The two other candidates for mayor, incumbent mayor Katjana Ballantyne and councilor at-large Jake Wilson, will be hosted at a later date.

Burnley to host Willie Fest II music event
Councilor at-large and mayoral candidate Willie Burnley Jr. hosts the musical event Willie Fest II on July 27 following Willie Fest I held in June. The free event is at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St., Davis Square, Somerville. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music from Mallcops, Your Friends in Hell, Battlemode and the Love Shamans begins at 7 p.m.

Ballantyne endorsed by Healy, Driscoll, union
Mayor Katjana Ballantyne has been endorsed by governor Maura Healy, lieutenant governor Kimberley Driscoll, the Greater Boston Building Trades Union and the Local 888 chapter of the Service Employees International Union in her reelection run. The GBBTU encompasses 20 individual construction unions. Among these are Pipefitters 537, which endorsed Ballantyne last week, and Teamsters 25, which also endorsed councilor at-large Kristen Strezo in her reelection run.
