Talk of transit-area buildings
Planning Board, 6 p.m. Thursday. Picker Construction seeks a special permit to mount mechanical equipment on the roof of 199 Elm St., Davis Square, exceeding current height restrictions. The builders want to put up a general building of no more than four stories between Dominoโs and Revival Cafe + Kitchen on the edge of the business district and within a transit area, which has different regulations than areas away from rapid transit. It was determined in April that the existing two-story structure was not historically significant, allowing for its future demolition. Separately, the owners of 179 Pearl St., Winter Hill โ the leasers of a single-floor building to Mudflat Studio โ want to build a three-unit apartment building without parking. In Union Square, developers at 59-61 Bow St. continue to change their desired use of a new building, now focusing on mixed use. Site owners were issued a permit last year to build 13 residential and one commercial units and allowed to create a shared roof deck and gym space at the top. Watchable via videoconferencing.
Hazardous waste drop-off
Public Works, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Residents with items not collected during trash, recycling and yard waste pickup can drop them off on the second Saturday of each month from April through November. This includes items such as motor oil, aerosol paint, household cleaning chemicals and rechargeable batteries. Folks are encouraged to use the cityโs waste wizard tool to determine what can be trashed and how. The city allows only people with proof of residence such as a utility bill or driverโs license; business owners cannot use this service. At the Public Works yard, 1 Franey Road, Magoun Square.
Resources in Mandarin, Cantonese
Office of Immigrant Affairs, 2 to 3 p.m. Monday. As part of its monthly Asian Tea Party, the department hosts representatives from 311โs constituent services center to share information translated into Mandarin and Cantonese, better connecting residents to city services when issues arise. The department, also known as SomerViva, will be in-person at the Ralph and Jenny Center, 9 New Washington St., Inner Belt.
Disability advocacy efforts
Commission for Persons with Disabilities, 5:45 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The commission conducts its monthly meeting, with a chair asking the city for information on how a comprehensive bike plan includes folks with disabilities. In the community room of the Public Libraryโs West Branch, 40 College Ave., near Davis Square.
