
Puritan clambake beckons
Chef Will Gilson has been celebrating summer with clambakes on the Puritan & Co. patio. Diners at the Inman Square restaurant, which creates meals rooted in New England tradition, sit at communal tables to enjoy two drinks and three courses of classic regional offerings such as stuffies, clam chowder, lobster and peach cobbler. The clambake is 6 p.m. Sunday for $85.

Daily Provisions has student offer
Daily Provisions, a newly opened all-day restaurant at 1 Brattle Square, Harvard Square, Cambridge, welcomes back students with an offer of one signature cruller free with valid ID from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 3-5. Don’t lollygag: This is for only the first 100 students who stop in. Reviewer Tom Meek said last week: “The one must-have on your maiden journey to Provisions is the maple cruller, a dense doughnut coated in creamy Vermont richness. If you’re having a bad day, it’s a certain way to sweeten it.”

Somerville Foundation Food Nation
The Food Nation Celebration is 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 4 with the theme “Vintage Block Party,” and vintage vendors will be on hand as well as curated bites to sample from 14 restaurants around Somerville’s Davis Square, starting with chicken wings with house sauce from the Elm Street Taproom, roasted mushroom focaccia from Foundry on Elm, cornbread and chili from Five Horses Tavern, Redbone pork sliders, Burren stew – even popcorn from the Somerville Theater. Drink options, raffle tickets, live music and community building are included with tickets for Year 2 of this Taste of Somerville-styled localized event in the 44 Day St. parking lot. Somerville Fermentation Festival
The inaugural Somerville Fermentation Festival is Sept. 7 at the Center for Arts at the Armory. The free event celebrates the world of fermented foods with a speaker series, vendors, exhibitions and sauerkraut-making demonstrations, among other things. Restaurants La Saison and Pagu will serve food showcasing their fermentation flavors.

East Somerville Foodie Crawl
Walk it off while putting it on at the 14th annual East Somerville Foodie Crawl from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 9. The fundraiser for the East Somerville Main Streets organization brings together foods “from Brazilian barbecue and Haitian stews to Colombian arepas, French pastries, Italian specialties, Mexican tacos, Salvadoran pupusas and more … your passport to East Somerville’s rich and vibrant culinary scene.” Indeed, this area is among our richest in authentic foods and immigrant-owned businesses. Sample from Michette bakery, Sister’s Caribbean, La Brasa and many more. Tickets are available only through presale purchase: Early bird pricing through Aug. 31 is $45 for adults and $15 for children. Tickets are at the East Somerville Main Streets website.

Anna’s turns 30 with burrito deal
The Mexican chain Anna’s Taqueria celebrates its 30th anniversary Sept. 10 (and is still growing, with plans for Boston, South Boston, Dedham and Cranston, Rhode Island). Its party plans are to offer its super burritos at their original 1995 price: $3.50. The first 50 customers at each location – locally, that’s 822 Somerville Ave., Porter Square, Cambridge, and 236A Elm St., Davis Square, Somerville – also gets a commemorative 30th anniversary T-shirt with the purchase.

The Middle East serves late
The Middle East Restaurant in Central Square is launching a late-night menu for 10 p.m. to midnight Thursdays through Saturdays. Options include classics such as corn dogs, french fries, onion rings and jalapeño poppers, hummus with pita, and grape leaves. All options are under $15.

The Friendly Toast gets dirty
The Friendly Toast launches a Test Kitchen menu Monday across its 14 locations in New England, including in Harvard Square: weekly rotating menu items and a specialty “dirty soda” – a beverage combining soda with flavored syrups and whipped cream that can be enjoyed as mocktail or cocktail. Upcoming themes include an Out-N-In Combo with Strawberry Milkshake Dirty Soda in celebration of National Burger Week; a Pepperoni Pizza Bagel Benny and Fruit Punch Dirty Soda for Back to School week; and Pop it Like it’s Hot Dog with a Lemonade Dirty soda for Fair Food Week.
