
The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School football team notched its first win of the season Friday with a 29-6 defeat of Saugus behind strong performances from offense and defense. Quarterback Joseph Derege completed 13 of 24 pass attempts for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Receivers Jamai Lewis, Jovens Exilhomme and Nikko Santos each caught a touchdown pass. Paul Dottin ran for 89 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown and two-point conversion.
Led by its defensive line, the Falcons (1-1) stifled Saugus’s offense. Tackle Kelvin Ferreira registered seven tackles for a loss and had two sacks. Exilhomme and Chris Jean Baptiste each had an interception.
Girls’ soccer: The girls’ soccer team continued its perfect season, improving to 4-0, in a 4-0 defeat of Stoneham on Thursday. Emily Anne Wintner led the way with three goals; Malena Alvarez Saavedra also contributed a goal. Mariye Demissie, Helena Demissie, Harriet Wessler and Wintner each had an assist. Fio Eddy made six saves. On the season, the Falcons have allowed only one goal.
Boys’ soccer: Propelled by a hat trick from Shiferaw Jida Sesia, the boys’ soccer team (2-1) defeated Belmont, 3-0, on Thursday. His first two goals came on assists from Elias Hyland and captain Michael Brown. Sesia scored from 40 yards out for his third goal after winning the ball from the Belmont goalkeeper, who had come out deep into midfield.
Girls’ cross-country: The girls’ cross-country team’s first meet of the season came last Sept. 10 against Bedford, Boston Latin and Westford Academy. In the unscored, 3-kilometer race, Sophia Juanes Seto finished in second place with a time of 10:43, followed by Fiona Litman (11:47, eighth place) and Violet Smith (12:18, 10th place).
Boys’ cross-country: At the same meet, Leon Ibanez-Fraile finished in second place in the 3-kilometer race with a time of 9:31. He was followed by Thomas Dewitt (9:37, fourth place) and Liam Eldridge (9:47, fifth place).
Girls’ Volleyball: The girls’ volleyball team (1-4) dropped its matches to Brockton and Boston Latin by a score of 3-1. It was the first time in at least five years that the Falcons won a set against the traditionally strong Boston Latin girls’ volleyball team. In that loss, Eli Su had 20 digs, and Noah Beyer had 13 assists and nine kills. Against Brockton, Chloe Alterman had seven kills, and Bianca Etkin had four blocks.
