The Cherry Cola Spritz at Josephine in Somerville.

Josephine is a luxurious and spacious Italian restaurant that seems like the kind of place you might go to for a business dinner or a very, very nice date. I went at around 1 p.m. on a weekday, which at least allowed me plenty of natural light to bask in as I sipped my cocktails.

For my first drink, I tried the Cherry Cola Spritz, made of Amaro Lucano, grenadine, maraschino, cola and Lambrusco. This was a red wine cocktail I would recommend even to people who donโ€™t like them. The combination of the rich red wine flavor with the bubbliness of the cola and the light cherry sweetness was delicious and decadent.

My second drink was the Patrala Soprana 3.0, made up of vodka, Zucca (a rhubarb and cardamom apรฉritif), strawberry, lemon and Peychaudโ€™s Bitters. Served in a Nick and Nora glass with a dried orange wheel, it was bitter and citrusy, a good drink for fans of sharp and strong cocktails, as the strawberry and lemon flavor didnโ€™t really come through. I found myself wishing I had tried another offering from the spritz menu.

The bitter and citrusy Patrala Soprana 3.0 at Josephine.

Josephine is a chic dining spot with a cocktail menu as Italian-inspired as the food. It offers a selection of a classic and house cocktails and martinis, but I would go back only for the creative, delicious spritzes.
