Running for School Committee in Ward 2 has been an extraordinary gift โ the chance to knock on doors, meet neighbors, and hear directly from parents, teachers, and community members. From front porches to stoops, Iโve been welcomed into peopleโs lives to talk about the heart of our community: our schools and our students’ futures.
There is something deeply meaningful about standing on a doorstep, looking someone in the eye, and listening to their story. Iโve met parents juggling homework and dinner, grandparents reminiscing about their childrenโs school days and neighbors who see our schools as the heart of a thriving community.
These conversations have reaffirmed what I already knew in my heart: our community cares โ a lot. Community members across Somerville โ whether they have children in our schools today, graduated years ago, or simply believe strong schools are the foundation of a strong city โ want every student to be able to read, write, and succeed in math. They know these arenโt just academic skills, they are gateways to opportunity. That shared commitment fills me with so much hope. It tells me Somerville is ready and eager to lead the way in education, showing whatโs possible when a city rallies around its children and refuses to accept anything less than every learner living up to their full potential.
Through this campaign and these conversations, Iโve also learned what kind of leadership our community wants and what kind of leadership I can offer as your Ward 2 School Committee member. I commit to:
Leading with urgency, energy and purpose, driven by a deep belief in our schools and the people they serve.
Showing up proactively and being a consistent and visible presence in our community, year-round.
Making sure parents, teachers, and community members know how to reach me and feel heard and seen when they do.
Knocking on my neighborsโ doors has shown me that real change begins with connection. Itโs about listening to one another, finding common ground, and working together to meet our studentsโ and communityโs needs. Every conversation leaves me more inspired and certain that the collective will of our community is strong enough to close achievement gaps, support our teachers, and ensure all students have what they need to thrive. At the end of the day this isnโt about abstract policy, itโs about people, families, teachers, and community members and ensuring the bright future of Somervilleโs students. As a leader, I am committed to not only strong schools but the people Iโm elected to serve. Purposeful, consistent, available, and always ready to listen and learn.
