Sarah May does stand-up Oct. 19 at the Armory in Somerville, the site of the “Inside Joke” art exhibit she curated.

Union Comedy fights the darkness that is Daylight Saving Time this week with the summer camp vibes of its annual Union Comedy Improv Festival. The festival welcomes improv groups from across the country – with fun names such as Hot Tub Ghost, Tucci, Ruby Rocket and Ben Gardner’s Boat – for 13 shows and a jam for performers and community members. The festival “is a chance to reconnect with what makes live performance so electrifying: collaboration, risk and pure fun,” co-founder and supervising producer Emily Holland says, pitching the event to audiences that include “someone who just needs a laugh, which is all of us.”

Union Comedy Improv Festival, 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday, 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at The Rockwell, 255 Elm St., Davis Square, Somerville. $29 per show; $89 for Saturday; $159 for all three days.

For folks who question if comedy is art, Acquired Taste Comedy’s Sarah May has curated “Inside Joke,” a multimedia experience highlighting the visual art of nine area comics. That’s right, some folks are out here doing both. The installation is winding down; its final day brings a combined closing reception and comedy show. Stand-ups and artists in the exhibition include Brieana Woodward (of the “Clown People” podcast), Tooky Kavanagh, Maddie Kelly (co-producer of Union Square’s Laugh Giraffe Comedy) and Don Yan, also of show producer Acquired Taste. Folks looking for insight into multiple forms of culture will love this mashup.

“Inside Joke: Stand-up Comedians Make Art” closing gallery reception and comedy show fro, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Arts at the Armory, 191 Highland Ave., Spring Hill, Somerville. Free.
