Sophomore Marin Albrecht pitched a no-hitter on Thursday to lead the Cambridge Rindge and Latin softball team (3-3) to an 8-1 defeat of Brookline. In seven innings, she struck out nine, walked two, and gave up an unearned run, which scored on a passed ball. She helped her cause at the plate by hitting a three-run inside-the-park home run. Caitlin Beyer and Caroline Orr each had a hit and an RBI. Eleanor Holleran had two hits.
Boys’ volleyball: The boys’ volleyball team (5-4) won in straight sets against Boston Latin on April 15, 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-22) and Boston College High on Friday (25-13, 25-19, 25-21). The Falcons have won three consecutive matches and five of their last six. Against Boston Latin, Max Milton had 12 digs, Brennan Loud recorded 11 kills, Nate O’Connell notched seven, and Bruce Toledo added five more. The team totaled seven aces and four stuff blocks. Against Boston College High, Loud had nine kills, Toledo posted seven, and Matthew Valentine added six kills. The team totalled seven aces and six stuff blocks.
Girls’ tennis: The girls’ tennis team (1-5) recorded its first win of the season with a 5-0 defeat of Malden on Monday. Julia Popa won her first high school match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at first singles. At second and third singles, Mia Costa and Jane Meek dominated with 6-0, 6-0 wins. At first doubles, P.C. Koester and Natalia Naef at first singles came out on top 6-0, 6-2 and at second doubles, Amelie Ramos and Liza Itskhoki shook off a rough start for a 6-3, 6-0 win.
Boys’ track: In a tri-meet on April 15, the boys’ track team finished third with 36.5 points, placing behind Concord-Carlisle (72.5) and Lincoln-Sudbury (61). In the 800 meters, Liam Eldridge finished second with a time of 2:00.99. Jarehl O’Bannon finished first in the long jump (19-6), and Jermaine Houston finished second (19-1.5). In the triple jump, Laurent Valentin finished first (39-11.75), followed by O’Bannon (39-8).
At the John Ottaviani Invitational on Saturday in Haverhill, the Falcons finished sixth among 16 teams. Houston won the long jump (21-4.5) and O’Bannon finished second (21-1.5). In the triple jump, Valentin took second (42-1). Matthew Shokoti finished third in the 200-meter dash (23.25).
Girls’ track: In the tri-meet on April 15, the girls’ track team finished third with 36 points, behind Concord-Carlisle (66.5) and Lincoln-Sudbury (53.5). Freshman Patricia Dixon won the triple jump (32-3). Sloan Judson finished second in the 100 meters (13.48) and 200 meters (27.72). In the 400 meters, Neva Hartman took second (1:04.00). The girls’ team did not place at the John Ottaviani Invitational.
Girls’ lacrosse: The girls’ lacrosse team lost to Newton South on Thursday, 18-8. Despite the loss, coach Amory Rowe considers it their best game of the season. Emma Kass scored three goals and had two assists, and Ella Schoneau added two more goals. Captain Freddie Funck, who earned the game ball, scored a goal and added an assist.
Boys’ lacrosse: The boys’ lacrosse team lost to Newton South on Thursday, 16-0, and to Belmont on Friday, 16-1.
Girls’ rugby: The girls’ rugby team lost to Brookline on Friday, 48-5. Emily Anne Wintner scored the Falcons’ only try. Laila-Rose Henry broke off a strong run that took several Brookline players to bring her down.
