A Korean corn dog has crispier batter, more dipping options and more elaborate and imaginative toppings than most of our state-fair fare, often pairing sweet and savory in startling ways. The Kong Dog shop in Somerville has 10 kinds of coatings atop five base options, including this excuse to eat fried ramen thatโ€™s on the less-startling side even atop half-mozzarella, half โ€œwhole beef sausage.โ€ Look, the cheese is on the tasteless side, that sausage is a hot dog and foods on a stick are just plain hard to eat, but ramen does a lot of the lifting in making this combination delicious, with solid crunch and a nice undertone of char. If the ideal is getting a mix of flavors in one bite, hereโ€™s another warning: Some Kong Dog variations are so big that a bite might be only batter and coating, and that can be true of the ramen version.
