Mariposa Bakery egg sandwich
Price: $9.50
Perhaps the best test of a cafe with breakfast offerings is its egg-and-cheese sandwich, something even the least kitchen-inclined can probably make at home. At Mariposa Bakery in Central Square, that sandwich comes on either a bagel or a pretzel roll, with add-ons available such a avocado, smoked salmon or a second egg (I opted for avocado). Let’s start with the good: The bagel had a satisfyingly crunchy exterior, the egg was cooked well, the cheese was melted, the avocado was fresh. But the bagel was almost comically small, the egg needed salt, I could have gone for more cheese, and the avocado was rather sparse considering it came with a $2.50 add-on fee. Even though the elements were all good on their own and the sandwich was enjoyable, the experience left me wanting more, especially for $9.50.

“Perhaps the best test of a cafe with breakfast offerings is its egg-and-cheese sandwich…”
This is likely the most honest and true statement ever published on Cambridge Day. Mariposa’s egg and cheese is indeed fantastic. I recommend ordering a cheddar chive scone and asking them to put your bacon egg and cheese of that. It’s called a Patrick and I’ve been getting them for years it’s how I’ve remained so handsome. ❤️
