Two people were shot, one fatally, in an early Thanksgiving incident at 10 Magazine St., in Cambridgeport near Central Square.

Police found the gunshot victims at around 12:30 a.m. Thursday near a black 2023 Tesla Model 3 in the street in front of the address’ Church Corner apartment complex. Both were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

One victim, a  27-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the hospital, while a 26-year-old man is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge police commissioner Christine Elow said in a 11:35 a.m. email.

The man was believed to be a West Roxbury resident, according to scanner reports. Boston police said they arrested in 2020 someone whose name and age match after a nonfatal exchange of gunfire by gangs in Roxbury. The woman was believed to be a resident of Child Street in Cambridge’s North Point neighborhood. The car belonged to a third person with a Kendall Square address.

In the investigation immediately after the shooting, police explored whether there was a potential third victim who had helped one of the shot people and limped away onto Pearl Street; a red car that sped away from the scene of the shooting, turning toward Harvard Square on Massachusetts Avenue; and four masked men running up Green Street at around the time of the shooting, according to scanner reports.

This is the sixth gun incident of the year in Cambridge; by this point last year there had been 13, though only two involved gunfire with injuries or deaths. There were three human victims of gunfire in 2022  in the city from two incidents; 2023 has now seen six victims from four incidents.

The most serious previous shooting this year was Jan. 9 at Washington and Windsor streets in The Port neighborhood. The victims were taken to local hospitals after being treated on-scene with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, police said. Preliminary information indicated the victims in January were shot while sitting in a car.
