Counter-service Greek spot Eat Greek Gyros will open in Davis Square this spring, filling the space Out of the Blue vacated when it closed in February.

The owners, Roland Leci and Eva Tsiantikos, are Greek natives. A third partner is Gjovo Gjergji.

“The idea for Eat Greek stemmed from our upbringing in Greece, where late-night gyros are a beloved tradition,” Leci said.

They hope it will be the same in Davis Square: Expected hours for Eat Greek are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily – the latest closing of anything in the square.

When the restaurant opens, either next month or in June, according to Leci, the menu will include gyros, of course, plus rice bowls and salads. Leci has renovated the space, which will shift from Out of the Blue’s full-service model to a counter-service restaurant with “ample seating.” Eat Greek Gyros will also have a full bar featuring Greek cocktails and offer online ordering and delivery.

Leci and Tsiantikos opened two locations of Eat Greek Gyros in Alicante, Spain, and plan to open another after they get the Somerville store opened. In Alicante, they found a large customer base in university students, which is part of the reason Davis Square appealed, Leci said, since there are students nearby at Tufts as well as MIT, Harvard, Lesley and other schools in Boston.

“We love the location for its vibrant energy, and decided this would be the perfect location for the first Eat Greek in the United States,” Leci said.

The Eat Greek Gyros storefront will be at 215 Elm St., tucked between The Painted Burro and Rosebud and around the corner from another Greek gyro spot, Opa Greek Yeeros, which reopened in February under new ownership after its former owners were forced to close it in September over a tax controversy.
