Mass. Ave. of 2040 open house
Massachusetts Avenue Planning Study community meeting, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The group held a process already looking at a segment of the avenue from Porter Square south to Cambridge Common; now it turns its attention to North Massachusetts Avenue, from Porter Square to Alewife Brook Parkway. This the second of three community meetings toward creating a vision for what the avenue will look like in 2040 and takes the form of an open house to solicit ideas and feedback. Snacks and beverages will be provided on the second-floor atrium of Lesley University Hall, 1815 Massachusetts Ave., Porter Square, Cambridge.ย
Multifamily zoning, Part I
Ordinance Committee, 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday. This committee run by vice mayor Marc McGovern and city councillor Paul Toner starts off a day of talk about a multifamily housing zoning proposal that could allow apartments of up to six stories in all residential areas of Cambridge. This meeting is for a staff presentation, councillor questions and discussion only โ no public comment taken. The committee meets at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. Televised and watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
Multifamily zoning, Part II
Planning Board, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. There was almost something else to talk about this week โ a sunroom being added to a townhouse! โ but with that hearing delayed the board has nothing on its mind except more discussion of a multifamily housing zoning proposal, the second of two board meetings on the topic in two weeks. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
Previewing the operating budget
Finance Committee, 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday. This committee run by city councillors Patty Nolan and Paul Toner reviews and discusses the cityโs operating budget in advance of the budget season for the 2026 fiscal year, as Cambridge settles into being slightly less well off as a result of a continued slowdown in construction for offices and labs. The committee meets at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. Televised and watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
New off-street parking laws
Ordinance Committee, 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 21. This committee run by vice mayor Marc McGovern and city councillor Paul Toner looks at adding a definition of โflexible parking corridorโ to zoning law that will allow private parking lots to be leased for secondary uses โ creating off-street parking that could more than make up for metered spaces removed from streets by the creation of bike lanes. The committee meets at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. Televised and watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.

People need to go to the planning board to get a sunroom LOL
How far are we from having to go the a nutrition planning committee to have our daily dinners approved by the city
If the sun room is on the back of an older building in a dense neighborhood with small backyards, and that addition (which may be allowed by right “without limits on area or volume” in the new upzoning), and looks into my bedroom window or kitchen window– yes, I would like an official ruling on that.
I find it ironic that the Ordinance committee is co-chaired by one of the authors and proponents of the multifamily housing petition and has a thumb on the scale every chance he gets. He is a dogged competitor who lacks listening skills if you are not part of his voting and campaign contributors- i.e. developers.
six story sunroom, whats the issue?
