Three people connected by police to a gunfire incident last month on Rindge Avenue have been arrested and arraigned, Middlesex district attorney Marian Ryan and Cambridge police commissioner Christine Elow said Friday.
In the Nov. 22 incident, gunfire was heard at around 2:10 p.m. at New England Transmission at 372 Rindge Ave., North Cambridge, with witnesses telling police theyโd seen a red sedan fleeing the area and three people running.
Surveillance video showed a red Lexus on the wrong side of Rindge โ and on the sidewalk โ and the three people seeming to chase the vehicle on foot, investigators said. One of the runners apparently fired two shots at the car as it sped away down the sidewalk, hitting a traffic light pole and knocking it to the ground.ย
When police saw the Lexus later, it had significant front-end damage and what appeared to be a bullet hole in the right bumper. Two shell casings were collected on Rindge Avenue.
Detectives said they have identified the three people seen running in the video: Daniel Cabrera, 20, of Cambridge; Elias Reardon, 18, of Cambridge; and a juvenile, unidentified because of his age.
โThis is a case of brazen disregard for the safety of the community. Firing a gun in the middle of the day in one of the busier neighborhoods of Cambridge, where children attend school and day care, and many others go to work every day cannot be tolerated,โ Ryan said.
Reardon was arraigned in Cambridge District Court on Nov. 24 and Cabrera on Wednesday, both held without access to bail because they are considered dangerous. They face assault, gun and malicious destruction charges.ย
The juvenile, charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, was arraigned in Cambridge Juvenile Court on Wednesday.
โGun violence, particularly violence involving youth, has been an ongoing concern and priority, and we remainย deeply committed to aggressively investigating and mitigating such harmful activity,โ Elow said.
