State of the city address

Mayorโ€™s Office, 5:30 p.m. Monday. Mayor Katjana Ballantyne delivers a mid-second-term speech covering progress on city initiatives since she took office. (Her first term began in 2022.) She is joined by incoming City Council president Judy Pineda-Neufeld and the chair of Somervilleโ€™s School Committee. At Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., Central Hill, and watchable via videoconferencing.

YMCA on Highland Avenue

Planning, Preservation and Zoning, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday. Representatives from the YMCA host a neighborhood meeting to present construction plans. The proposal includes an expansion of facilities at 101 Highland Ave., Winter Hill,ย  by replacing a trio of surrounding houses; and a โ€œ100 percent affordableโ€ residential building atop an abutting parking lot. Ongoing climate initiatives

Commission on Energy Use and Climate Change, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Members of the commission, including a newly appointed energy adviser, discuss ongoing and future projects, including school decarbonization and new alternative home heating systems. The commission will also discuss a proposed ordinance to disclose more utilities costs to the public and a recently passed state bill that advances permitting of clean energy sites. Alternative home heating

Office of Sustainability and Environment, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Residents are invited toย  learn more about an evolving home heating technology known as geothermal networking that connects homes through pumps to regulate temperatures by capitalizing on the regularity of underground temperatures. Designed to replace traditional heating solutions, geothermal networking is, according to a previous information session, more than three times as efficient as electric heating.
