Food, like everything, is getting more expensive in Trump’s America; we Snackers have begun discussions about how long we can keep to the rule of sampling below the $10 line. But then you enter the paradise of culinary authenticity that is East Somerville and find La Cosecha, which provides you a full sandwich and fries with enough change to make a dessert of buñuelo, a lightly fried and sugared ball of dough and cheese, seem like a good idea. (It is.) The fries are pretty good; the sandwich is great. Thick, griddle-charred ham slices, melted cheese, some greens and a sweet, bright slice of tomato with a slather of sauce like a Russian dressing that makes the elements cohere to the roll. This is hardly the best or most interesting thing on a menu famed for its arepas, but the price makes it a secret worth sharing as times get tougher.
