Envisioning Mass. Ave. of 2040
Massachusetts Avenue Planning Study working group, 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. This group is considering what the avenue will look like in 2040 from Cambridge Common to Alewife Brook Parkway. At this session it hears from the Community Development Department’s Zoning & Development Division about zoning recommendations on such things as building height, use, density and dimensional and design standards. Transportation and Public Utilities Committee, 10 a.m. to noon Monday. This committee run by city councillor Cathie Zusy meets with MIT transportation experts and city staff to brainstorm ways to better (and sustainably) accommodate mobility for everyone. Pressley on the political future
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley on “What Do We Do Now?” 7 p.m. Tuesday. The U.S. representative for the 7th Congressional District answers questions from Boston Globe assistant metro editor Joshua Miller about Trump administration actions and the future of U.S. progressivism. Change in floodplain regulation
Health & Environment Committee, noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday. This committee run by city councillor Patty Nolan gets an update on changes to regulations around construction in the city’s floodplains. The committee meets at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. Televised and watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
Search for a superintendent
School Committee special meeting, 6 p.m. Wednesday. A discussion of the search for a permanent superintendent to replace Victoria Greer, who left at the end of June after being asked to resign by the committee. The interim leader is chief operating officer David Murphy, whom the committee has shown confidence in, but a search goes on and a vote on its results must be made before the date of the biennial election of the committee, which falls on Nov. 4. What cannabis retailers face
Economic Development & University Relations Committee, 3 to 5 p.m. March 20. This committee run by city councillor Paul Toner brings in retail cannabis business owners for a roundtable about issues facing the industry here and potential changes, including adjustments to 1,800-foot buffer zones and introduction of social consumption.
