“Cream of wheat or fruit?” is the question that follows most breakfast orders at The Neighborhood, and the rare response for fruit is often met with “Are you sure?” (The menu also encourages diners to not miss out: “Come for the cream of wheat, stay for whatever else you ordered.”) The restaurant and dish were even featured on WCVB 5 – has another cream of wheat been covered on local TV news? It comes out piping hot, with ground cinnamon over the glossy grains. The flavor is a sweeter and creamier enhancement on the familiar, with a perfect level of salt to balance the taste. It’s a perfect cravable snack for anytime of year – even the heat of summer. A small costs $3. If you’re looking for a snack to keep you full for a while, try the large for $5 or join other locals and order to-go deli containers of the side dish.
