The size of your unit matters
Neighborhood & Long Term Planning, Public Facilities, Arts & Celebration Committee, 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday. This committee run by city councillors Cathie Zusy and Jivan Sobrinho-Wheeler discusses options presented by city staff to regulate maximum unit sizes to ensure that zoning incentivizes the creation of housing โ because the bigger the place where a single person or household lives, the smaller the space available to build other places for other single people or households. Harriet Jacobs and a hotel
Historical Commission, 6 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday. A petition asks to initiate a landmark study of the Harriet Jacobs house at 17 Story St. and Mount Auburn Street near Harvard Square, where the author of โIncidents in the Life of a Slave Girlโ lived in Cambridge in the 1870s and provided a home for Harvard students and faculty โ a petition crossings paths with efforts to put up a hotel and residential building by tearing down the neighboring triple-decker at 129 Mount Auburn St. The Harriet Jacobs house would be relocated and restored as part of the work, developers say. Narcan distribution event
Cambridge Public Health Department, 1 to 3 p.m. Friday. Free Narcan (the drug naloxone, which is capable of reversing overdoses), fentanyl test strips and other harm reduction materials will be made available at the Cambridge Public Libraryโs Central Square Branch, 45 Pearl St.ย
Kendall Square plaza and path
Planning Board, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Members look at design changes since December on a plaza that developer Boston Properties will build over an 11-story-deep power substation, with a lawn and structures meant for celebration, escape and gathering; and at a nearby โeast-west connectorโ between structures โ a paved path with greenery. Mass. Ave. of 2040 proposals
Joint Meeting of Transportation Committees, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. A presentation on planning for what Massachusetts Avenue might look like as of 2040 from Cambridge Common to Alewife Brook Parkway. Beyond beautification, the goals of a group that met for more than a year of work were to produce more housing and neighborhood amenities; support small businesses; and improve sidewalks and walkability.
