Vegan cafe in Kendall; fee shift
License Commission, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. The vegan Lulu Green Cafรฉ is finally before the commission to take a space at 675 W. Kendall St., Kendall Square, closing at 10 p.m. on weekends and earlier on other days. In April, owners estimated that an opening would be in late May or early June, filling a space previously occupied by PlantPub, another plant-based restaurant that closed in late 2023. Also on the agenda, the commission considers changing its common-victualler fee structure to include outdoor as well as indoor seating; and whether to designate a member to vote on special noise variance issues or one-day license applications that come between meetings. Alewife site walk
Transit Advisory Committee, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Committee members and the curious visit areas around Alewife that will change because of development by the MBTA and the life sciences developers IQHQ and HealthPeak, including locations of planned bridges or other infrastructure investments. Also on the itinerary: recent developments in the areaโs Quadrangle section. The group meets in the lobby outside the main fare gates โ and in front of Dunkinโ Donuts โ at Alewife Station.
Zoning variances and special permits
Board of Zoning Appeals, 6 to 11:30 p.m. Thursday. A developer wants to add a fourth-floor unit atop an existing triple-decker at 351 Cardinal Medeiros Ave., Wellington-Harrington โ making a quadruple-decker. Watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
Solar zoning and protections
Health & Environment Committee, 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday. This committee run by city councillor Patty Nolan discusses zoning and other ways to encourage use of solar energy systems. โIt is essential that we continue to promote investment in renewable energy sources, but equally as important to work to protect residents who have already made that important investment in renewable energy,โ so there will be staff recommendations to protect access for residents with existing solar energy systems, Nolan said.
