102614i-crime-booksFans of Boston reporter and thriller author Hank Phillippi Ryan rejoice: The latest in her Jane Ryland and Jake Brogan series, โ€œTruth Be Told,โ€ is out in hardcover and Ryan is coming with it Monday to Porter Square Books.

As in past visits to Cambridge, Ryan is accompanied a fellow crime writer โ€“ in this case, true crime writer Kate Clark Flora, a Grub Street teacher and former assistant attorney general in Maine whose latest book is โ€œDeath Dealer,โ€ a look at the 2003 case of David Tanasichuk and his missing wife, Maria, calling for a seeming endless cadaver-dog search of hundreds of miles of woods along the border of Canada and Maine before a conviction in 2012.

In Ryanโ€™s novel, her reporter hero Ryland digs into the conspiracy behind the foreclosure eviction of a middle-class family, while Boston police detective Brogan gets a confession to a 20-year-old killing and canโ€™t help questioning its truth.

Reviews have been good, with Library Journal urging people to โ€œdrop everything and binge-read until the mind-boggling conclusionโ€ and The Associated Press saying it โ€œshowcases the authorโ€™s ability to balance humor, gripping drama, romance and contemporary issues. Ryan โ€ฆ nails them all in this high-quality reading adventure.โ€

Flora will talk about her book (and her โ€œAnd Grant You Peaceโ€) and Ryan is to talk about crime fiction, her inspiration and her life as an Emmy-winning investigative reporter at NBC at 7 p.m. Monday at Porter Square Books, 25 White St., Porter Square.
