DSA will never reach its potential if local chapters are allowed to commit political suicide the way its Hub outpost is on the verge of doing, making a misguided attempt at expulsion against state Rep. Mike Connolly.

A “Pit-A-Palooza” event this weekend is supposed to honor the people organizers call “Pit Rats,” but I just can’t attend an event run by people that have helped kill everything that made Cambridge special.

Gannett – the 900-pound gorilla of multinationals in the local news space – announced last week that it was eliminating many of its Massachusetts news properties and merging others including the Somerville Journal with the Medford Transcript. It’s doubtlessly a last, brief flash in the proverbial pan before elimination by a profit-focused corporate parent.

Concerned community members in Cambridge have organized buying high-quality KF94 masks in bulk for public school students. It’s laudable, but why do individuals need to raise funds to provide personal safety equipment to students at all?

Last weekend, state Rep. Mike Connolly got a death threat on Facebook for calling for keeping the state’s stay-at-home advisory in place until June. We need to proceed very very carefully and think deeply about where we’re going as a society.
