Although East Somerville is teeming with restaurants serving up authentic (and delicious) Latin American food, the French bakery Michette on Broadway is not to be overlooked. Its bacon roll was superb. The roll consisted of beautifully laminated croissant dough wrapped around pieces of bacon; the result was bready, savory, buttery, meaty and unlike anything I’ve had before. I tried it on a whim after thinking initially I would go for one of the shop’s loaded focaccia slices, and I was very happy I switched. I felt it only could have benefited from being heated, but the upside of the pastry being $5 is that I had another few dollars to spend on an oat cookie, which did come out toasty and was almost as good as the bacon roll. Filled with homemade praline that got nicely gooey, it was a warm and warming offering that I also wholeheartedly recommend.
