Economic Development & University Relations Committee, 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday. This committee run by city councillor Paul Toner brings in retail cannabis businesses for a roundtable about issues facing the industry here and potential changes, including adjustments to a 1,800-foot buffer zones and introduction of social consumption. Changes to Kendall Square plan
Planning Board, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Changes to plans for the Kendall Square Mixed-Use Development District arrive in which Boston Properties would accommodate a lease renewal by the life-sciences company Thermo Fisher by changing plans for two lab and office buildings, reallocating 145,000 square feet of space to construction at 105 Broadway St. from 250 Binney St. (We wrote about it here.) The developer argues also that the changes respond to changes in demand and requirements for commercial space “in flux from systemic changes to work behavior that have persisted” from the Covid pandemic. Help paying energy bills
Eversource energy bill assistance event, 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. The utility company hosts an event for people who need help paying an energy bill, including getting those who are eligible signed up for a discount rate, a “New Start” program, flexible payment plans and a connection with the Home Energy Assistance Program. One-on-one support is promised. At the Citywide Senior Center, 806 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square, Cambridge.
Examining education funding
School Committee special meeting, 6 p.m. Wednesday. A budget workshop to review what’s proposed for the 2026 fiscal year at a time city officials are talking about austerity and the threat of at least $22 million lost from Trump administration policies. Televised and watchable online and by Zoom videoconferencing.
Covid aid and police budgets
Finance Committee, 1 to 3 p.m. March 27. This committee run by city councillors Patty Nolan and Paul Toner gets an update on disbursement of Covid-recovery funds from the federal American Rescue Plan Act, and reviews and discusses the police department budget before it is submitted to the city manager. The committee meets at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. Televised and watchable by Zoom videoconferencing.
