Information on police accountability tool elusive as budget hearing escalates over defunding effort

City officials didn’t give an expected arrival date at a budget hearing for a public dashboard that measures possible racial profiling and other race-based disparate treatment by police. Some of the hearing debated efforts to shift some police functions to other areas such as human services.

City officials first promised in 2018 to create a public Procedural Justice Dashboard showing how police treat people of different races and ethnic origins. It still doesn’t exist, but on Monday city councillors got the latest estimate for its arrival: sometime in the next eight to 10 months.
