Anyone mailing packages at the Porter Square post office over the past couple of weeks had plenty of time to take in the scenery while waiting in line, so they certainly had plenty of time to puzzle over or appreciate this special potted plant.

It’s not every bit of green in Cambridge that gets protected and pampered behind a velvet rope. There was, however, no bouncer in sight making sure that anyone getting in to see this houseplant was on the list.

Or maybe the plant, flag, display of boxes and velvet rope are to ensure only the hardiest and least easily dissuaded people get access to the somewhat obscured and obviously very exclusive supply room behind it all.
