U.S. citizenship prep class

U.S. citizenship preparation class, 10 a.m. Saturday. The Somerville Public Library and St. Mark Community Education Program offer a free 10-week U.S. citizenship preparation class starting Saturday. Students will be prepared for a citizenship interview, which includes 100 civic questions, reading and writing sections and interview questions based on their N-400 application. Classes end May 11 (with no class May 4 due to a library book sale). Students must have a basic level of English and five years as a U.S. permanent resident or three years if married to a U.S. citizen. The class will be held in person at the Somerville Public Library, 79 Highland Ave., Central Hill. Registration is required and space for the class is limited.

Fundraising danceathon

Somerville Shakeup Danceathon, 1 p.m. Saturday. Danceathon teams will be able to dance to music from many decades while raising money for the Community Action Agency of Somerville. Participating teams are encouraged to find supporters to donate to CAAS for every hour the team spends on the dance floor. Prizes will be handed out for the best individual and group costumes. Those who donโ€™t have a team are still welcome to join for dancing. Free, but donations are encouraged. The event takes place at Connexion, 149 Broadway. Registration is required.


Historic Preservation Commission

Historic Preservation Commission, 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. The commissionโ€™s meeting will be watchable by videoconferencing. Instructions on how to join the meeting will be added to the cityโ€™s site before the meeting. (Update on March 4, 2024: This meeting has been canceled.)


Find summer kids’ activities

Somerville Summer Camp and Activities Fair, 5 p.m. Thursday. Attendees can discover summer camps, recreational activities and learning opportunities. A Somerville Summer Activities Guide will be available to pick up, and pizza will be provided. The fair will be held at the East Somerville Community School, 50 Cross St.

Planning Board to meet

Planning Board, 6 p.m. Thursday. A โ€œrecreational camp for children useโ€ is proposed within zoning and the owner of land at 321 Washington St. wants a change from fabrication district to Commercial Industry zoning. Both were written about here. The boardโ€™s meeting will be watchable by videoconferencing. Instructions on how to join the meeting will be added to the cityโ€™s site before the meeting.
