Catching Eeland Stribling headlining Goofs’ Detention feels like the only time to catch him inside. As an avid fly fisher whose Web series “Comedians on the Fly” introduces fellow performers to the sport, it’s pretty clear he’d rather be outdoors. It’s more than just a hobby – this biologist and environmental educator is known as “the black Steve Irwin” and cares deeply about the natural world. (His biologist grandfather prophetically named him after an African antelope.) When he does come inside, his jokes aren’t catch and release – which is to say he kills, often casting aside the avuncular for the jugular. (“I think we need more diversity in the NBA. I would love to see an all white NBA team. We could call them the January Sixers.”) He won the Denver Comedy Works’ New Faces competition in 2023 and 2024 and is fresh off a win in Don’t Tell Comedy’s inaugural comedy competition.
