Hello Cambridge Day readers, and welcome to your new site, phase one.
What you’re seeing is built in a new publishing platform, Newspack, a version of the WordPress content management system meant expressly for media organizations.
Making this shift was one of my priorities when I became editor-in-chief. Cambridge Day was using a much older version of WordPress that was less flexible and efficient. We also needed a server upgrade, and better cyberdefenses to help defend us against the kinds of attacks that have slowed our production to a crawl over the last week. Newspack should bring us all that and more.
With this platform in place, we can start to improve our site’s organization and navigation. You’ll see a number of changes happening to our site as we continue to work with this new back-end.
We’ll also be working on a full refresh of our look-and-feel across our platforms.
There is still work to do. Major software updates almost inevitably have hiccups. Our stellar team at Newspack is working on a few more technical problems. Here’s how you can help:
If you run in to glitches, send a note to notforpublication@cambridgeday.com. It will help us set priorities for what still needs work.
This relaunch is only possible because of your support. We deeply appreciate it and we look forward to sharing an improved experience of the site, and a deeper engagement with the community.
With gratitude,
Michael F. Fitzgerald
Editor-in-Chief
