Did someone tell you science nerds don’t have a sense of humor? Nic Sugiarto is doing a lot of work to undo that assumption. The aspiring medical student is using his gap year at the Broad Institute to draw connections between science and humor with his “Statistically Funny” show. He’s moving the weekly Brookline show across the river to Middlesex Cambridge for its first charity show, and there’s a twist. Answering the question, “How do I make shows for science actually about science,” the lineup (including Dennis Rooney, Madhuri Raju, Andrew Vickers and Nic Ferreira) will bring a one-minute science-themed joke to the stage. But don’t worry about this addition to the full sets getting pedantic; Sugiarto feels it’s “100 percent more fun for these jokes to come from comedians who don’t” know science. Sugiarto may frame this show as a benefit for medical research, but the gift is about to be one for the audience.
“Statistically Funny: A Standup Charity Event” at 7 p.m. Thursday at Middlesex, 315 Massachusetts Ave., near Central Square, Cambridge. $20.
