From the Katherine Clark campaign, July 11: State Sen. Katherine Clark, a Melrose Democrat, has raised nearly $500,000 in her race for Congress in the 5th Congressional District of Massachusetts. Clark will report $228,000 raised in the second quarter and has $402,000 on hand as she campaigns for the U.S. House. Clark’s fundraising total and cash on hand put her more than $100,000 ahead of any other candidate.
“I’m delighted and proud of the terrific support that we’ve received just a few months into our campaign,” Clark said. “I’m working to carry this early momentum all the way to Washington to fight for working families like mine against Republican extremists.”
Clark is a candidate for the seat that will be open once U.S. Rep. Edward Markey is sworn in as a U.S. senator on Tuesday. A special election is expected to be scheduled for December, with a primary in October.
“Massachusetts worked hard to send Ed Markey to the Senate,” Clark said. “I’m running to fight for the same progressive issues that matter to Markey and Massachusetts families: protecting women’s rights, keeping our promises to seniors, addressing climate change and making college more affordable.”
Clark was sworn in for her second term as a Massachusetts state senator representing Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield and Winchester on Jan. 2. She was first elected in March 2008.
