From the Katherine Clark campaign, July 11:ย State Sen. Katherine Clark, a Melrose Democrat, has raised nearly $500,000 in her race for Congress in the 5th Congressional District of Massachusetts. Clark will report $228,000 raised in the second quarter and has $402,000 on hand as she campaigns for the U.S. House. Clarkโ€™s fundraising total and cash on hand put her more than $100,000 ahead of any other candidate.

โ€œIโ€™m delighted and proud of the terrific support that weโ€™ve received just a few months into our campaign,โ€ Clark said. โ€œIโ€™m working to carry this early momentum all the way to Washington to fight for working families like mine against Republican extremists.โ€

Clark is a candidate for the seat that will be open once U.S. Rep. Edward Markey is sworn in as a U.S. senator on Tuesday. A special election is expected to be scheduled for December, with a primary in October.

โ€œMassachusetts worked hard to send Ed Markey to the Senate,โ€ Clark said. โ€œIโ€™m running to fight for the same progressive issues that matter to Markey and Massachusetts families: protecting womenโ€™s rights, keeping our promises to seniors, addressing climate change and making college more affordable.โ€

Clark was sworn in for her second term as a Massachusetts state senator representing Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield and Winchester on Jan. 2. She was first elected in March 2008.
