The Lehrhaus food list is not vast, but it is intriguing, with a Beet Reuben and Not Chopped Liver – a rich purée of eggplant, nuts, olive oil and mushrooms that is as smooth, creamy and savory as its fowl counterparts, but guilt-free.

The meatball sub has juicy, well-seasoned meat, ricotta and basil that comes out looking like a wrap in fresh, thin pizza dough. It’s everything you ever knew about meatball sub comfort and a total changeup at the same time – and a reason to specifically go to Si Cara for lunch.

The Neighborhood is high-end diner comfort food with flourishes from across the sea, including a hearty onion-and-pepper “Newark Portagee” sandwich.

Barismo, the dark and cozy cafe outpost on Broadway near the Cambridge City Hall Annex, is where to go to slow down and savor coffee and food.
