101615i-Jake-CrutchfieldFrom the Jake Crutchfield for School Committee campaign, Oct. 7, 2015: School Committee candidate Jake Crutchfield plans an Oct 24 “Conversation on Education” where residents can deliberate over issues including equity, inclusiveness and the role of testing in education.

“I’ve made it a point of my campaign to meet voters where they are, whether that’s at a large public event like Danehy Park Family Day, or attending as many school council meetings as I can,” Crutchfield said. “We need more opportunities for meaningful conversations about the direction our schools are going in.”

Through an open dialogue, a shared vision for education in Cambridge will be articulated, he said. As a licensed teacher in Massachusetts and as a substitute teacher, community organizer, after-school teacher and volunteer throughout the city, Crutchfield said, he believes hands-on learning, teacher empowerment, extensive family engagement and greater access to out-of-school time opportunities are the keys to greater equity across the district.

Crutchfield said his campaign for School Committee is gaining support steadily throughout Cambridge.

The “Conversation on Education” is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. Oct 24 at Danger!Awesome Underground, 645 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square. The event is family-friendly, and there will be pizza and refreshments. For event information and updates, click here.
