McGovern displays a rare commitment among leaders with immigrant advocacy
From Leslie Ditrani, Oct. 19, 2017: I reconnected with Marc McGovern, a city councillor and candidate for reelection, at a meeting in my office for a young homeless teenage girl who needed immigration assistance. She was undocumented and had nowhere to turn. Marc personally attended the meeting and offered his support. Having worked as an immigration attorney for more than 20 years, it is a rare and heartwarming sight to witness such commitment.
This is just one example of how Marc McGovern has been a strong advocate for immigrants in Cambridge. Marc recognizes the fear that our current administration has induced in the immigrant community and has acted to alleviate it. He has recommitted Cambridge to remain as a sanctuary city, created a liaison of immigrant affairs and voiced his support for people affected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals act in a partnership event with the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition. Marc has also been sure to include undocumented residents in the larger community by providing help for them to gain legal representation, medical care and housing. During these times of uncertainty, it is essential to have a strong leader who brings our community together. Marc McGovern has proved that he is that leader for Cambridge. Thank you, Marc.
