Applications are being accepted for the 2021 City of Cambridge Scholarship for college-bound high school seniors and Cambridge residents pursuing postsecondary education. Those applying must be a resident of Cambridge of any age; be attending, have received admittance to or have an application pending at an accredited education institution beyond high school level before May; and not have received the scholarship before.

The deadline is March 8. Scholarships are paid directly to education institutions and must be used during the 2021-2022 academic year.

Last year saw 79 scholarships of $3,000 each awarded, for a total $237,000. Since the program’s start in 1993, there have been 1,108 scholarships awarded, for a total $2.6 million.

The fund is administered by the city’ Finance Department, where a six-resident committee appointed by the city manager reviews applications and selects recipients. Applications are evaluated and ranked based on academic achievement, financial need, community and extracurricular activities, and special circumstances.

Interested residents can download the application directly or go to CambridgeMA.gov/cityscholarship. Questions and requests for applications via mail can go to either (617) 349-4220 or [email protected]. To contribute to the fund, go online or mail checks to the City of Cambridge Scholarship Fund, City of Cambridge, P.O. Box 2005, Cambridge, MA 02139.
