Volunteers who want to serve on Cambridge’s Community Benefits Advisory Committee should send a letter of interest by April 3. The group will make recommendations to City Manager Yi-An Huang for approval and the award of grant agreements with nonprofit organizations for the provision of community benefits.

Community benefits may be programs or services provided by nonprofit organizations that directly benefit Cambridge residents. The role of the committee is to solicit and evaluate applications from local nonprofit providers for services consistent with City Council funding priorities. The committee will also be responsible for establishing rules, regulations and guidelines to provide for the proper administration and implementation of community benefit funding.

The committee will consist of 13 members including three representatives of the local nonprofit community, four residents, three city staff appointed by the city manager, one Cambridge Community Foundation representative, one business/property development representative and one university representative. The committee will meet approximately monthly starting this spring. Committee members shall be appointed to three-year terms.

People are encouraged to apply if they have interest in human service programs, experience/expertise in relevant topics (examples include such things as nonprofit leadership, fiscal management, community development, program design/development, public health, housing, homelessness, food access/insecurity, mental health/substance abuse, grant writing, social justice and child development) and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse viewpoints to craft consensus solutions.
