Animal protection group has favored candidate for Cambridge in upcoming election: McGovern
Massachusetts Voters for Animals urges residents to give Marc McGovern the No. 1 vote this Election Day, Nov. 7. Councillor McGovern has been a leader on animal protection issues in Cambridge, and his successes have served as a model for municipalities across the state. In a thought often attributed to Gandhi, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated.” Cambridge should be proud of its progress on animal protection and McGovern’s leadership. His compassion and skill has led to the passage of multiple ordinances that protect vulnerable animal populations, those often harmed in industries that profit from them. With his achievements, there are fewer animals at risk in the city.

Marc is part of what makes Cambridge great. His work for animals and as a social worker sets him apart from other candidates. He truly cares.
I am glad he is advocating against the use of animals in the lab and other situations. Every candidate has his bright moments. What I have a problem with in the larger context as a councilor is in some cases, HOW he gets things passed and his mode of operandi. He is generally known for his bullying tactics and unkind comments to those who don’t agree with him on a whole host of issues.
I am looking for someone who is respectful, knows how to reach across the isle, knows how to work well with others, and once in a while takes off the blinkers which create tunnel vision. Protecting animals is laudable, but character on the chamber floor, open discussion, transparency and inclusion may be a bigger attribute.
