
The Cambridge Rindge and Latin boys’ soccer team remained hot last week, winning its games in defeats of Westford and Bedford. The Falcons (9-3-3) have lost only once in their past eight games and are ranked ninth in the Division I power rankings from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.
In its 6-0 defeat of Westford on Oct. 21, Jason Lim scored two goals, and Andre Baraglia, Mathis Asnake and Elias Hyland scored one goal each. CRLS’ other score came on an own goal by Westford. Brennen Loud, Shiferaw Jida Sesia and Lim each had an assist. In the 2-1 defeat of Bedford, Lim scored another two goals and Ben Richards contributed an assist.
Girls’ soccer: The girls’ soccer team (8-5-2) defeated Westford, 2-1, on Oct. 21 and lost to Bedford, 1-0, on Thursday. Against Westford, Sascha McHugh scored twice, with both coming on an assist from Malena Alvarez Saavedra.
Girls’ crew: At the Massachusetts Public School Rowing Association Fall Championship, the girls’ crew team had six first-place finishes, three second-place finishes and two third-place finishes. The fours teams combined to finish with the most points in that category. The crews that finished first were the first varsity four, the second varsity four B, the third varsity four A, the fourth varsity four and the first novice four. Isla Agnew won the varsity single.
Boys’ crew: The boys’ crew team had five first-place finishes and one second-place finish. The fours teams combined to finish with the second-most points in that category. The crews that finished first were the first variety four, second varsity four, third varsity four, fourth varsity four and the second novice eight.
The boys and girls teams together finished fourth overall in team points.
Boys’ cross-country: At the Dual County League Championships on Friday, the boys’ cross-country team finished second in the Thorpe Division with 44 points, behind Concord-Carlisle (26 points). Thomas Dewitt was the top runner for CRLS, finishing second with a time of 15:46.9. He was followed by Leon Ibanez Fraile (fourth place, 15:47.9), Liam Eldridge (seventh place, 16:03.7), Kieran Eichler (12th place 16:21.2) and Gael Berzin (19th place, 16:47.9). In the first-years’ 3k race, Charlie Fonda finished seventh for the boys with a time of 11:11.1.
Girls’ cross-country: The girls’ cross-country team finished third in the Thorpe Division at the Dual County League Championships with 78 points, finishing behind Westford (26 points) and Concord-Carlisle (42 points). Sophia Juanes Seto was the top runner for CRLS, finishing second with a time of 18:02.2. Cambridge’s other top runners were Fiona Litman (13th place, 20:07.9), Violet Smith (15th place, 20:26.2), Lauren Sebesta (22nd place, 21:22.6) and Neelu Trivedi (26th place, 21:33.0). In the first-years’ 3k race, Mai Schneider and Yasmina Ghamloush finished in fifth place and seventh place, respectively, with times of 13:32.0 and 13:47.9.
Football: The football team (3-4) fell to Weston, 26-19, in a tough defeat Friday. Quarterback Joseph Derege completed 14 passes for 233 yards and added a rushing touchdown. Jamai Lewis had 80 receiving yards and had a rushing touchdown. Nikko Santos finished with 85 receiving yards.
On defense, Kevin Ferreira and Lucas Diaz combined to register five tackles for a loss. Ferreira recorded a sack and forced a fumble, which was recovered by Diaz, who made five solo tackles. Sebastien Array contributed with a safety, and Jovens Exilhomme had three tackles and an interception.
