I still remember one particularly riotous squeal from the first time I saw Raanan Hershberg perform live. It matched the energy he brings to the stage: high intensity, occasionally frenetic, and always so funny. I was thrilled to hear Goofs Comedy Club – the newly streamlined name for the team behind Duck Duck Goofs – would bring him to the area as part of its “Detention” series. Hershberg’s sets are densely packed with jokes and poke at people across the political spectrum; as a self-proclaimed “loud, neurotic Jew” he has experience making “rednecks” laugh in his home state of Kentucky and grinding for laughs in his adopted city, New York. Perhaps it’s a wide scope that has allowed him to be so prolific; his self-released third special, “Brave,” came out this summer, followed nearly immediately by a fourth, and his experiences with antisemitism isn’t stopping him from prepping a special with material about Israel and Palestine, according to Deadline’s Matt Grobar. He’s got a local connection as co-host of “Joe and Ranaan Talk Movies” with Boston-bred comic Joe List. If you’re up for the high energy and big laughs of a Ranaan set, you can catch an appearances at Goofs at 8 or 10 p.m. Saturday.

“Detention featuring: Raanan Hershberg” at 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday at Goofs Comedy Club, 432 McGrath Highway, East Somerville. $22.
