Maintenance of public housing
Housing Authority, 4:30 p.m. Thursday. At a regular monthly meeting, board members review roof repair work at Mystic View Apartments in Winter Hill near Ten Hills; power washing at Bryant Manor, a 134-unit state senior and young disabled housing development in East Somerville; and parking lot repaving at The Hagan Manor, where men with disabilities and substance abuse history lived in a congregate living situation in Ward 2 on Washington St. In-person at Mystic Activity Center, 530 Mystic Ave., Winter Hill.
Gas station demo for housing
Planning Board, 6 p.m. Thursday. Owners of the Aris Auto parcel in Wilson Square at 675 Somerville Ave., Spring Hill, begin the process to demolish a gas station and repair garage and build a three-story structure with 14 homes and one commercial space on the ground floor. Adam Dash, who represents 675 Somerville LLC, said builders plan to include no vehicle spots but up to 18 bike parking spaces, as the property is less than one half mile from the Porter Square red line and commuter rail station. In Assembly Row, the owners of 74 Middlesex Ave. need approval for nonconforming wall signs that promote the name of their building, 74M. The owner โdid not believe that such property address logos constituted signage,โ lawyers said, asserting that their client is simply complying with city zoning ordinance guidelines. The new building has one occupant so far: a yet-to-be-opened Dunkinโ Donuts. Watchable via videoconferencing.
Owners want to expand U-Haul
Urban Design Commission, 6 p.m. Tuesday. The commission provides design recommendations for 151 Linwood St., which houses the U-Haul Center of Boston in Brickbottom. The building owners have been planning to redevelop the structure and in August submitted another certificate of zoning compliance request to raise the facility to six stories in zoning that allows for up to four. Owners would like to have basement level self-storage, a vehicle rental area and a warehouse and use the remaining space for retail. In 2022, lawyers withdrew an application after this commission planned to vote down a proposal for 12 hardship variances. Members shared a belief at the time that โthe applicant just created a list or variances they would need to execute their desired project, rather than attempt to create a zoning-compliant project.โ Board members support a need for more self-storage, for the many students and young professionals who live in the city for a short time, but expressed a desire for the owners to conform and โwork in collaborationโ with the community and city staff. Watchable via videoconferencing.
Tree removal for a driveway
Urban Forestry Division, 5 p.m. Aug. 28. The city requests feedback about whether a 13-inch Norway maple tree in fair condition should be removed. The public tree is in front of 9 Taylor St., Ten Hills, and the property owners need the tree removed so they can build a driveway. Watchable via videoconferencing.
