A Crumbl Cookies is set to open Friday in Central Square.

The Cambridge franchise of the national dessert brand at 425 Massachusetts Ave. is owned and operated by Joe and Callie Oppedisano, who have experience with co-ownership at the Station Landing., Medford, Crumbl with Gopa Menon, plus a third location in Massachusetts, said Becca Bevan, a public relations strategist at Crumbl.

Beginning Monday, customers who download the Crumbl app and use the promo code macbrdg will be able to claim one free chocolate chip cookie. The promotion runs for 30 days.

The menu at Crumbl rotates weekly on a schedule that applies to all locations. Each Sunday, the cookie lineup is announced online, with those six cookies being available in stores the following Monday through Saturday. Fan favorites circle back periodically, but there’s no way of knowing what’s coming until the week of.

This week, the menu includes the milk chocolate chip cookie customers can claim for free, plus five other flavors: strawberry pretzel pie, a “pie-inspired” cookie rolled in pretzel pieces, topped with cream cheese frosting, strawberry jam and pretzel pieces; lemon crinkle, a cakey lemon cookie rolled in sugar crystals and sprinkled with powdered sugar, which is served warm; double fudge brownie, a brownie cookie topped with chocolate glaze and brownie bites; sugar (candy eggs), an Easter special of sugar cookie with vanilla icing and candy eggs; and carrot cake, a double-decker with cream cheese frosting layered between and on top of two carrot cake cookies and topped with chopped pecans. (Crumbl confesses in branding that “It’s not a cookie, it’s a cake.)

If these cookies sound like meals, you’re not far off. The nutritional facts that Crumbl supplies – 180 calories for the chocolate chip, 150 for the lemon crinkle and the strawberry pretzel pie, 200 for the double fudge brownie and the sugar (candy eggs), 210 for the carrot cake – are actually for only a quarter of the cookie, bringing the totals up to more than 800 calories for one cookie. (This doesn’t always go over well.) There’s a Crumbl cutter, which chops a cookie neatly in four, that can be hunted down online and is presumably part of an upcoming merch store. Makers can find downloadable instructions online to take to the Foundry or The Hive at the Cambridge Main Library for a version that cut a cookie into six pieces.

Customers can order in person, online or on the app. Curbside pickup and delivery are available, plus catering and nationwide shipping.

The brand, which was founded by cousins Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley in Utah in 2017, expanded from its original store in Logan to 950 locations across all 50 states, plus Canada and Puerto Rico, making it the fastest-growing dessert chain in the country, according to the chain. Central Square is the 18th location for the chain in Massachusetts and has been in the works for more than a year. (It fell under fire for covering its windows in pink vinyl over concerns of “cookie espionage.”)

The Central Square Crumbl is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and closed Sundays.
