The quesadilla at Felipe’s in Cambridge. (Photo: Madeleine Aitken)

Price: $9.50

“It’s like a bar with a Chipotle inside.” That’s how I always describe Felipe’s, the Harvard Square staple known for its rooftop deck and excellent margaritas that also serves Mexican fare with a buffet of options like at a Chipotle-esque counter – although of course, it is far better than Chipotle. One of the best offerings is a quesadilla, which is not your average melted-cheese-inside-a-tortilla quesadilla. It starts that way, but you add fillings before it gets folded up: I opted to add rice, pinto beans, chipotle onions, sour cream, Baja sauce and guacamole (for $1.50), which was a winning combination. The result is a sort of griddled burrito, which is just as tasty as it sounds. The tortilla is crispy on the outside, the cheese is melted nicely and the toppings are warm and mixed together thoroughly. For $9.50, it’s an affordable yet filling (and delicious!) option in the heart of Harvard Square.
