The falafel skewers with hummus and spicy green tahini, tried at the Clover Food Lab in Cambridge’s Central Square. (Photo: Madeleine Aitken)

Price: $8.75

Clover Food Lab, after starting as a food truck in 2007, has become a vegetarian mainstay, with locations all over Boston and Cambridge. (The location in Somerville’s Assembly Square has closed.) It’s good, but perhaps a little overhyped and overpriced: The falafel skewers with hummus and spicy green tahini is a loaded plate; the falafel themselves, served on a bed of (very good) pickled cabbage and (very mediocre) pickles, were just okay. Because of their small size, they were a bit dry, and just don’t have that chickpea flavor that falafel should. The hummus was decent, but an olive oil drizzle became more of a pool. The green tahini sauce was actually the star of the dish: light and tangy, it provided a nice dipping sauce. This is not a bad plate, but it’s nothing to write home about, and for this amount, your money is probably better spent elsewhere.
