Police confirmed gunfire at around midnight Friday at the Briston Arms apartments on Garden Street in Neighborhood 9, though the confirmation came Friday afternoon during officers’ second visit to the complex. The homes are surrounded by Danehy Park.

The midnight call was for “what sounded like possible gunshots near Danehy Park,” said Jeremy Warnick, director of communications and media relations for Cambridge police, “but we were not able to find any witnesses or evidence to confirm such a report.”

Hours later, a resident reported that there had been gunfire – and it was their exterior window that was hit.

It is believed that this was not a random gunshot incident, Warnick said, and the reason for resident’s delay in confirming the incident “is an element we are still trying to determine.”

Detectives were following up with residents in the area to learn more about this incident. Anyone with information about the Friday gunfire is asked to call (617) 349-3300 or make contact anonymously.

It was the 14th gunfire incident of the year, and one of the 12 without victims. The previous incident was more than two months ago, when a brawl between Central and Harvard squares ended with the sound of gunshots.
